My Canada
An Alternative Take on the Great White North
Geordie Telfer

Filled with bent, twisted facts, this hilarious romp through Canada’s history gives us a quirky take on our past from a master story teller. With his tongue firmly planted in his cheek, humour writer Geordie Telfer plays fast and loose with some of the most celebrated and significant moments in our country’s
history, using such tools as reality game shows and conjectural “what-ifs”:
The Plains of Abraham—Commander’s Corner: A couple of hockey commentators are hired to provide the play-by-play during a 250th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham
An Almanac for the Invasion of Canada: Full instructions on what to do if the Americans invade, including practical household tips!
Fur Trade Monopoly: Games night with the family will never be the same as you compete for utter dominance of Canada’s fur trade!
The Charlottetown Conference of 1864: When the circus comes to town all those stodgy delegates in their stuffy top hats really cut loose!
24 (short films about Tommy Douglas): An action-packed adventure starring real-life grandson Kiefer Sutherland as Tommy-D, out to save the world or at least universal health care
A Hipster in the Diefenbunker: The cold war heats up after an unlikely run-in between a jive-talking hipster and the Canadian establishment
Stephen Harper Applies for EI: You have a government job but you’re also the head of the government, so are you not, ipso facto, self-employed? Find out…
Heritage McMoments: An indelicate skewering of our tendency to idealize Canada’s past, because, really, who cares if young John Diefenbaker once sold a newspaper to Wilfrid Laurier?
Enjoy Canadian history as you’ve never read it before!
