On November 25th this year, Canadians across the country, whether sports fans or not, will watch the playing of the Canadian Football League’s 100th Grey Cup championship game.

The cup was commissioned by Canada’s Governor-General, Albert Grey, in 1909. The cup was first awarded to the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and Toronto has a fair bit of magic when it comes to winning the cup, with 15 championships being won by the Toronto Argonauts.

The trophy is a silver chalice mounted on a large base, which holds the names of all the players and staff of the winning team. Over the cup’s more than 100 year history, it has been stolen a couple of times, survived a fire, and been broken and repaired several times.
